John K. Mizner to Edwin M. Stanton, 19 November 1866
Fort McPherson. N. T.
November 19th 1866
Hon. E. M. Stanton
Sec’y of War.
Sir.
I desire to recommend to your favorable notice Lieut Geo. W. Yates, 2nd U. S. Cav. and late Lieut Col. of Volunteers.
during the time Lieut Yates has been at this Post, he has fully sustained the reputation gained during the war, as testified to by the distinguished officers under whom he has served.
I have found Lieut Yates to be a most valuable, efficient, energetic and capable officer and a thorough gentleman.
As one of his many friends I desire to see him promoted, for I am satisfied his experience and ability fully qualifies him for the position he asks, and that he will be an ornament to the service,
I am Sir,
Very Respectfully
Your Obdt Servant,
(Signed) J. K. Mizner,
