Dr Sir
I have just received your letter of the 23d inquiring about your fathers death. he died at Yorktown in the Nelson hospital july 26th of remittent fever. he had been sick about three weeks. I recd no notice of his death until aug 8th & I wrote immediately to your sister at Auburn In care of Mr Stalker; Where he is buried or whether or no anything marks his grave I cant tell. I had not seen him Since we left Yorktown the 9th of June we went up the peninsula I told the Surgeon that he ought to be discharged he had him Sent to the hospital & I made out his descriptive list clothing account & all necessary papers for his discharge & had them forwarded to the Medical director. next day we were ordered to March that was last time I seen him/
I recd merely a short notice of his death from the Surgeon in charge no inventory of his effects whatever he got his pay two days before we left Yorktown but I suppose he sent it home if there is any thing I can do for you in the way of getting back pay bounty &c I will render all the assistance I can
Yours Truly
