New Orleans July the 4th/64
Kind friend I received your letter about 10 minits ago I was much pleased to hear from you and happy to have the privalege of sending my picture although it is not as natural as I wish it was. but I have got A pass for 40 minits and it is up I had not time to set again so be content with this one and when I have more time I will have An other taken. we are a Board the Steam Ship Mississippi and Bound on some secret Expidition. I wish I could enform you whear we are/going but I can not.
I will have to close this short epistle by adding I am always happy to receive your letters and let me asure you I often think of you although A stranger but I hope we shall not always remain as such.
I am well wish you the same.
