Fort Craig N.M.
May 24th 1863
Dear Sister:
Your very welcome letter of
April 19th received, I have answered Katies letter
and have received the money and statement
from John, and also I have written him a
long letter about some money matters which
is very important for me to hear from as
soon as possible, as it is very important
to me- You can see I have moved from
Santa Fe and gone into business for my-
self under the cognomen of Messrs Hinkley
& Garrison & Sutters at Fort Craig. we have
averaged so far over two hundred and fifty
dollars a day sales, and we have only a very
limited stock of goods on hand, the money
I wrote John about is for the purpose of buy-
ing a stock for fall and winter trade-
I will give 8 percent and take it for
from six to eighteen months for $5000.00 if
I can get it pretty soon. if Uncle George or
Mr. Archer or any of my acquaintances want
to iinvest I will give them good security
certified to be such by any civil officer
they may wish-
Please excuse this scribble as I
have several business letters yet to write
which are very important-
My love to all, glad to hear
Lou has made up her mind at last,
pretty near time- I think if Henry would
write to Uncle Made he could get a sit-
uation or the vacancy in the bank
Uncle george could get for him if he
wanted to-
