Amos F. Garrison II to Harriet F. Kirby, 1 March 1864
                         Fort Craig N.M. March 1st 1864

Dear Sister
Yours and little Katie’s received with
the greatest of pleasure.    you may rest assured that
every letter has been answered promptly since I
left that has been received.    you may think
that I do not intend to send any presents to
the girls as I promised but you would be
mistaken as I have had them two or three times
but the officers which as fulter I have to give
away to have taken them from me.    there is
one thing very certain the longer they wait
the better I will try to have the presents
as I will be better able to stand it-

Tell John I am very much obli-
ged to him.    there is more change in Salem
than I imagined possible.    Indian bread is
blue corn not dirty hands.    tell Lou E. to
come out here and I will cure him, if the
lungs are not too far gone this is the best place
in the world.    Expcuse haste better next time
My partner is away and I am head over heels
in business.    Love to all Yr. Brother A.F.Garrison
