Fort Craig N.M. May 6th 1864
Dear Sister:
Your kind letter of 1st April was rec’d
by last mail along with Katie’s letters and maps
which are very good indeed for a person so young
She appears to be slightly offended because I have
called her “little Katie”. Please offer as an apology
the excuse that it has been so long since I have
seen her that I did not make any allowances
for growing, after this I will try to remember
that she is big Katie-
I wrote to Gus sometime
ago telling him to come if he wants too, and
giving him the necessary directions for his trip
his letter of last spring “telling me he would come”
was never received. there was one letter which
intimated something to the fourfront of he might
come upon me writing certain things to him
but not knowing whether he would be satisfied
here. I would not influence him either way.
May 9th I do not know what particular fight
you refer to. there has been several fights with the
Indians during the last six months- tomorrow an
expedition leaves here for to establish a Post in the
Apache nation five hundred men strong.
My regards to Mr & Mrs Sinnickson
and tell Mrs S I saw her brother about two weeks
ago. he was very well he is at Los Pinos (the Pines)
about one hundred miles from here.
My partner
will buy all the goods this year I will try to
get in next year. it would be impossible for
Gus to take charge until he learns the business
everything is carried on on a different prin
ciple here.
Yours in haste with love to all
A.F.Garrison
