Hermosillo Sonora Mexico
July 3rd 1872
My dear Brother:
I have written five letters
and one to Gus this steamer is six since
I have received a letter from home, but
I suppose you are all well or else you would
have written.
We have had very dull times
here for eight months, since the revolution
commenced, but now everything is quiet,
and we have a better prospect than ever
for a very great improvement as the Legis
-lature of the State, have just granted con
cessions to an English Company, for a
railroad from Guaymas through this city,
to the line to join the Southern Pacific from
San G.”Co. to New York, which opens a vast
field for making money and for this
reason I would like you to give me a
complete statement of my ascs to date
with information of the probable amount
in cash that could be realized on every
thing that I have left in New Jersey
for when this road commences, one
dollar in hand is a certainty to bring
in at least ten. to a man that knows
the country and its resources, if he has
any business knowledge. please do this
and let me know as soon as possible, as
it is very important to me. I shall
keep a writing to some one every mail
until I receive some answer-
How is
everybody. how is business. how are
all my old lady friends, all married
off, I suppose. Mr. Archer how is he. how
I would like to see him. I think I could
cure him here. I would take delight
in taking him out to ride, as he is used
to me. we would make glorious trips
to my ranch 30 miles from here where
I have some 600 head of cattle and 80
head of mares, horses & mules, or to the
sea coast, fishing , hunting deer, mountain
sheep etc. how is Henry, Gus & John Batten
getting along. are they making any money
Cousin Sou & Hedge are they well. how
is 6 per cent G.W.G. as fussy as ever. I am
in hopes to see him before I die to shame
him for his letter to you which I shall
always keep, I have made and spent
more than he ever had, but for the
last four years I have become miserly
to save up for my old age.
Uncle Amos is
in Guaymas, Vice Consul, at that fort, but
acting Consil and will be for 5 or 6 months
to come I suppose.
I suppose it would trouble
one a little to carry both Nell & Kate up &
down stairs now. you of course are doing
well. please write me a long with
all the information that you can on
all subjects which you know would
interest me - and oblige
Your Brother
A.J.Garrison
N.B. With many kisses to
Harriet & baabies & love to all
friends I am A.J.G.
