Dear Sister
I shall write a brief letter only
until I get an answer to some of my previous
ones, which I am going to have mailed in San
Francisco. I have written to Henry the third
letter, which goes to day, by same hands, asking
him to turn over, to John, the amount which
he owes me, with the interest which he thinks
he ought to pay, for which amount John will
give him a legal receipt, to be forwarded im-
mediately, by Wells Fargo & Co’s Espress to me here
as I need it very much. I have been paying interest,
for a year past at the rate of 2 percent per month, which
is low for this country. my note is due March 1st
and I have no other ready means of meeting it
so I am in hopes you will see the immediate
necessity I have for the money, more so that
I have left it 15 years without asking for it
before.
I shall try to get home in 1876 if
possible for the Centennial, but at present
times are very hard here and money
scarce, and in fact since I left home
never have I been so scarce of money
before. I have lands to realize from
in plenty, but this is no time to sell
as I think this country has a grand
future before it, if I can only hold
until then I shall I think make a
nice little fortune
With much love to every body
and hoping that you are all well
happy and making money. I am as ever
Your Afte Brother
