                       On the Plains  June 21st
 
My Dearest Sister
                       Please excuse the paper
this time  it is rather scarce on
The Plains at preasant    I expect
to replenish my stock to morrow
at Counsel Grove which is 140
miles from Kansas City and
the last settlement for 250 miles
to Fort Vannard    We get up
every morning from 1 to 3 o’clock
and start    the Cattle cannot
travel in the middle of the
day    We travel from 16 to 18
miles a day    I do not expect
to get in Santa Fee before
the first of August    My health
is very good and getting along
very well    have had very good
luck so far    Write soon    tell
John to send me word if he
received J B Browns note
Give my love to John and
the girls    Good bye    I must
come to a close    I have
1 or 2 more to write
