Edmund A. Garrison to Harriet F. Kirby, 15 August 18XX
                        Fort Craig   Aug 15th

Dear Sister
                 I arrived here on the
8th from Amos well and
doing a very good business
I left Albert Talman in Sante
Fee with a man by the name
of Hunter    Amos has been
talking about drawing out
of the Firm but the thing
is not settled yet and I do
not know what I am going
to do until he got settled
Amos Chance is one out of
a hundred in this country
But there is a great deal of
money to be made in this
country if a man will stay
here 8 or 10 years and get his
credits established    But I do
not think that this country
will hold me that long
We live in one story adoby
houses    cook sleep and eat all
on one floor and a very rough
set to deal with    We have  no
society but a great many
Army stations   Has Henry collected
any mony out of the Reg
I received your letter    it
was waiting for me when
I arrived    that muslin
I was so much in a hurry
and so many things to do I
forgot all about it until
I had left for Phila    Tell Robi
I delivered her preasant to
Uncle Amos    He sends his
love to all of you and the
same for me    Good Bye
I have not time to write
any more on this    Will be to
late for the mail
                 From your brother
                              E J G
Direct to Ft Craig

Union    I spent 6 days with
him
