Amos F. Garrison II to Harriet F. Kirby, undated
                             Pittsburgh  2 o’clock
                                       Tuesday

     Dear Sister
                            Just arrived
here    little too late to make
a junction with the other
trains so we have to wait
till one o’clock

We got in the cars at
11    market at 10 o’clock at night and
have been in them till now
with the exception of 15 minutes
to breakfast.    We had a sleeping
car.    I like it very much
never felt better in my life
no danger of being homesick coming
over the mountains, especially
for a businessman who never been
anything of the kind.    We report
to Gen Fremont at St. Louis
for the department of New Mexico.

My love to all    kiss Neil
& Kate for me.    I hope they
are well by this time.
     Good Bye
          From your affectionate brother
                      A.F.Garrison

N.B.   You ought to see our
names registered for New Mexico
it looks lofty

     I have learned the National
Guard quicksteps to keep my
spirits up.

Cheer up. Cheer up.    Don’t let your
spirits go down.    For there is
many one that you love well
looking for you in the town
Uncle Amos sends love to
all.           G.F.G.
