Edward Gilbert to John Gilbert, 31 October 1864
[Letterhead: Headquarters, Military Division of the Mississippi,
Office Provost Marshal General,]
                                                                        [Nashville, Tenn.,] October 31st [1864.]

Dear John,—
Your few lines of the 26th is on hand and the information all O.K.—Charles Cone and Mr Martin, who are going home to vote, will call on you as they see me often & a very agreeable aquaintance has sprung up between us.—They are willing to bring me a package and I therefore ask, that you will send me my Dress coat,—I think it is in the botom drawer of my bureau.—Capt. Squires gives me a very satisfactory account of you, which makes me grateful for your wellfare.—I know of nothing especial to write to you.—With the exception of Uncle Augustus I do not hear from any one in N.Y.,—I don’t know why Uncle Wm keeps such silence, unless he got offended at a certain matter I wrote to him about last August;—he, however, has no reason to be.—
Your &c
                        Edward
