Nashville, March 27th 1865
Dear John.
After one of the most tedious, disagreeable & tiresome trips I have yet made, I got here Friday night so worn out, that I have not got over it yet.—I called on Blackmere while in Chicago and conversed with him on the subject Lyon broached; he talks favorable but not so sanguine as the latter. I could have made arrangements for immediate commencement were I free to do so, but must run my chances now. If you saw Lyon after I left & he made any further remarks on the subject, you will of course let me know.—
I am anxious to hear of your matter of selling out & hope all works to your satisfaction.—
At present writing I have no fixed place yet. A request for a detail to Post Qr Mr has been sent & I await the reply.—I am going to the Cumberland Hospital to day, both for rest and prudential reasons. If a detail cannot be had I shall accept a clerks position there, which very many there urge me to do. I can fill my time in that place as pleasantly as any where else and/in as much I could not procure a paying position I shall have the choice to take the easiest place, I can find.—The weather has been very fine since I got in this latitude,—the reason however is very backward.—Mandeville’s Regiment is at Tullahoma, Tenn.—
Much love to Lona.—
