Dear Father
 
                        I have not writen to you in some time so I thought I would so as I am agoingt to war I have enlisted in the U.S. Army and will fight till the last the rigament will leave in a weak I think. Dear Father think not hard that I have not let you know before I an now in camp in Hartford I cannot come to Morristown it is to late to think of that we must save the union Henry is agoing with me Father we may not see meet on earth again but man has power over this body only they cannot kill the soul. If I fall in this battle I pray I may in heaven and will you meet me there I will not write any more at presant so good by
