Dear Mother
                        I received your letter some time ago but I [?] not [?] it yet [?] thought I would write a few lines I have hurt my lame arme I hurt it liften careyng a stick of wood it is almost well now Mother wanted to know wether I recieved David Ctter that he wrote when I was [?] it rite away I have not got very many letters lately for when I did write I could not get an answer but I will do better hearafter
 
There is a report that we are to have a furlow two/men from a company at a time and 10 days at a time if so I think we can see home in two months I hope it is so
 
It is very muddy here now and very bad going we have to go on picket about once in six days when on picket we can talk with the rebs pickets as they are but about 150 rods from us they often want to know how we like to cross the river. There is a little Snow on the ground now but it is most gone now I recieved a letter a few days ago that was mailed August 4th 1862 I do not know why it takes so long it had been to Newbern then to New York then to Washington and to Fredricburg./
 
The 27th NJV have move so that they are about one mile from us I think I shall get a pass and go and see him as I have not heard from him in some time he was well when I saw him last.
 
Henry recieved a letter from Ellen last night and I must write to her to day I have not heard from Lewis and Cyrus in some time. Mother I wish if you see Charlotte you would tell her to write me I Can find out where to direct letters to her. Has Aarons arm got strong yet. I should like to know what the folks think of this war when do they think it will close/they seeme to think that we know all about it down here but it is not so we do not hear the news only through the papers for my part I do not know when it will Close but I hope and pray that it may soon but I must close as I have one other letter to write give me another my love to all enquiring friends
