Dear Mother
I thought as I had not writen in some time that I would try and write a few lines. it is because I had forgoten home that I had not writen before but becawse I am so buisy in the day and tired in the day night that I do not think of writeing. I am well but used up being on guard so much nights. Henry is well he is asllep gon to bed now. there is no news around here but what you can hear in the papers sooner than by mail.
Mother where is Charlotte is she sick or at work/I sent her some money a good while ago but she did not take the paines to write to me in return
We have meeting here once a week on sunday which is the only religous meeting we have we have a good chaplin his name is Morris I have forgoten his first name he is from New Haven. the week before last he spoke on finding fault with the President. he says we must be more contented. How I wish I could be at Church in Waterbury once more but I must wait the drum is beating and I will close so good night from your son Horace
