Dear Mother
I recieved your letter of the 5th how happy it makes me to hear from home so often. I got two papers from you today also a letter from Min and one from Cyrus they are all well. Mother it is some encouragement to get a letter once in a while but I suppose they (that is some of them) think that if they get a letter from me that is all they care about but I must not complain if I have one a month from each I keep account of the letters sent and recieved last month I wrote two letters to where I only of got one all the/month through that is I wrote 13 and recieved only 6 but I am glad to get that many.
My health is as good as can be expected. I wrote to Mary Ann last night but was so tired that I thought I would leave this letter untill to night now I have got three other letters to write tonight. There is not much news out here only about that peace commission I have not seen but two of them they ware rebs. Prisioners or deserters from the rebs are coming in evry night some times one and other times four and five they are all sick of this war and well they may be for the Yanks are whiping them in evry fight and that is/enough to make them sick. You asked me about A. J. Cotney he is here on duty but he has been on the sick list a long time he had the feaver.
You asked me if we had the small pox here we have not it is said that it is the healthest that it was ever known down here this winter the most of our sick is on account of wounds there is some of that class. Give my love to all enquireing friends and pleas write often
