            Dear Mother
I recieved your letter of the 26th on the 29th and was glad to hear from you and to hear that you was well. There is one thing I wish to tell you that is I do not want you to worry about me for if I am sick or hurt I shall let you know some way but I think the fighting is done at least for our part of the armey and there is a talk of there sending some of the Oldest regts home by the fourth of July and I am in hopes it will take our regiment as it has/seen hard service and is very small about 150 men for duty. I have just returned from meeting and dressparade we had a good time there was a preacher from Baltimore here and he preached a good sermon. My health is very good much better than it was when I wrote before. Mother there is one thing I should like to know that is is there any of the Garriguses in the armey of our relations except Henry and me I was thinking of it the other day and made up my mind that it was not a very pattar patriotic tribe that could not send out but two reprasenitave. You spoke of some of our/ Corps being in a fight it was the first and second Divisions they helped take Lee but the third Division (ours) did not have to fight at all and they the third division ware the onley troops that took Richmond. after we took the city there was some Negros come to help us hold it there was not a gun fired takeing the place we runn them out. The people ware almost starved they would come up to us and beg hardtack and as that was not very pleanty in our haversacks some had to go away hungry it was enough to make any one cry to see some of them but times is better/now the Govemment is trying to do the best they can for them. I cannot think of any thing more to write at presant so I will close.

I have not taken any paines with this letter but I guess you can read it
                                    Much love from
                                    Your affec son
