Horace Garrigus to Sarah Garrigus, 22 May 1865
Camp of 8th C.V.V.I
Near Richmond Va
May 22ond 1865
Dear Mother
I recieved a letter with a line in it for Henry some time ago but have failed to answer it I believe Henry wrote since but he did not let me know any thing about it untill he had sent it. My health is very good onley I am some tired to day I did not sleep very well last night on account of its raining all night and the tent did not stop the water much so I got some wet. It is a clear day to day and I have not had to drill so I have/some time to write.
There is not much news in camp now except about going home and there is so many stories about that that we do not know what to think about it. Our duty is not very hard but I should like to be out of the service so I could have a little time to study before my time will be out. As I have not got any trade I shall have to do something soon. Does Mother think Father is drinking hard enough to hurt him what I mean is does he get drunk very often I hope not but I fear it is the case do not be afraid to tell me if it is so.
I am so tired that I shall/have to make a short letter of this. Pleas give my love to all the folks and a larg share for yourself
Good night from
hour affec son
