Dear Brother I am a goin to write you lines a few lines to let you know thet we are well and hope you the same I am glad you did not git kild at the battle union boys are fighting at Island No 10 they seem to be ganing all the time the Island lays in a short bend of the Mississippi River at Missouri point they think that they can whip the rebels out one of these days there is a fleete just left ship Island to take New Orleans our side seems to whip the rebels every where they go 8000 Fedorals whipt 15000 rebels this was near Winchester Gen Shields was slaghtly wounded in the left arm he was/in the Mexican War where he was Wounded Horace it is gitten late and it is time for me to make an end of my letter Mother sends her best love to you Charlotte side herts hear some this is all I have write so good by Aaron Garrigus
