Lewis Josselyn to Elizabeth Josselyn, 30 October 1863
Friday Morning 30th Last night our Company was reenforced from the 31st regiment, seeing that it is so small, they did not know but the Wisconsin boys might try to do as they said they was going to, clear us out. a good many of our boys were of on guard about the city was the reason that we had men come from the 31st regiment. evry thing passed of quietly and they all went back this morning. Our regiment has been presented with a new flag. I have not seen it yet but they say it is a splendid one. on it is inscribed Bisland and Port Hudson. the regiment is all broke up now. one company started yesterday for Plaquimine and two companies are on provo here, leaving now but seven companies together. I here that our old Colonel which has not been with us since we first came to New Orleans has been assigned a new position, at Washington in charge of the prison there. we/expected him out here to take charge of the regiment a short time ago for they said he was coming and we hoped it was so, for he was liked well by all the regiment this is all now I will write again by an other week. it has cleared of and is as lovely a morning as you ever see in May
