Dear Mother
I said in my last letter when I got the box that was sent I would write again. and now that we have got it I must be up to my agreement. We got the box yesterday. all the things were in good order, seeing there was not many things in it likely to get spoilt. the preserve that Lime had sent broke loose but it did not do much harm and the cranberrys jamed up a little. the butter was all right. and right good. my boots were just what I wanted and a good fit, the shirts I have not tried on but I can see they are all one could ask for, the pockets I was afraid you would not/put in for I did not think to write for you to. the shirts are made of extra woolen and they must last me a long time, till I come home I hope. In nailing on the cover to the box, quite a nomber of the nails were drove through one of Butts shirts which hurt it some I got another letter from you the other night and the letter was not opened as you was afraid they were. the money and stamps were still there. I had put a letter in the office that morning, so I did not write again till two or three days had gone passed for I cant write evry day. you write for me to mention to Lime about the trouble bettween his folks and Laura I would not do it for a thousand dollars I would not have him know that I knew any thing about it. he does  not say any thing of course to me about it, and I should feel mighty quear to mention/the subject to him. I have no news to write evry thing goes on in the same old stile, all are well. I will send you another little rebel curiosity a postage stamp. I found it with two of our kind. this must answer for this time. I am tied up most all of the time, and do not have a chance to write. my work is not hard atall. I am writing now at the office, and am geting my writing done as quick as posible as you can see this is wrote with a quill
                                                                        more soon
                                                                                    L Josselyn
