Camp Hancock Near
Fredricksburgh Virginia
 
My dear wife  I left Camp on yesterday morning to stand on picket guard opposate to Fredricksburgh on days that we have to go on picket guard we leave Camp only in the morning and return to camp the next day about one oclock where we picket it is about three miles from this Camp on the banks of the Rappahanick river opasate to Fredricksburgh The river is about two hundred yards wide here we can sea all through the streats of Fredricksburgh from where we picket and all the rebel soldiers that is handy to it on my return to Camp/to day I received a letter from you it was dated May 17th I was very happy to hear from you to learn that you was well and engoying pretty good health I was also glad to hear that grand pap and all the rest of the friends ware all well dear Mussy you stated in this letter as well as in a former one that Mrs Scott had moved to Corcica and that you was now living alone you state in your letter which I receved to day that Mrs. O Conner of Corcica wants to rent the part of the your house that Mrs Scott occupied if you could get a deasant woman with a small famly to live in the house with you thy would be Company to you and you would not be so lonesome/Mr. O coner is a soldiear in this Company but I am not much aquainted with him he belongs to the amunishion train and is not in this Camp but very seldom consequently I am not much aquainted with him I have made some enquiry of Soldiers hear that lives in and near Corcica about the Caracter of Mrs. O coner Thy tell me that hir Carracter is not good and that she is not thought much of about Corcica This I only know by what the men tels me hear who says that thy are aquainted with hir if this is the case perhaps you would be better without hir but you can enquire and sattisfy your self with respect to hir I would like very much if you could get a deasant famly to live with you it would be/Company to you if you cant get a good renter and one who will pay the rent I think that you would be better without them if you cant get a good famly to live with you if you could get a chunk of a boy or girl to live with you I think that you would get a long better thy could do a good deal of your work and thy would be company to you but you know better how to sute your self then I do—I leave the whole thing entirely to your self I wrote to you a few days ago I then told you all the news which I no of we have been laying in camp since the battel resting and not doing much of any thing but picketing I do not think that thy will be any more fiting done hear now for some time I hope it may be the case you have not told me yet what Mary sed said when you gave hir the likness and the five dollars I  sent to hir
