Rebecca Fosdick
Rebecca Fosdick (maiden name: Hollingsworth) was born on September 28, 1828, near Newport, Indiana. She married Austin Fosdick on January 15, 1844. They had one son, but he died in infancy. They lived in Red Rock, Iowa, and her husband worked as a farmer. By 1860, they owned $400 of personal property. They moved to Ashland, Nebraska, in the late 1860s. A local writer described her as a “lady of most excellent Christian character.” She was a member of the local Methodist church, and she was reportedly a “most active and faithful worker in the church.” Her health deteriorated in the early 1900s, and she was admitted to the Nebraska Asylum for the Insane in Lincoln, Nebraska in 1910. She died there on February 6, 1911.
