James Madison
James Madison was born around 1822 in Indiana to Channing and Mariah Madison. His father was a farmer who owned $100 of personal property by 1860. By 1850, he was working as a physician in Marshall, Illinois. He married Ellen M. Glossbrenner on November 4, 1858. They lived in Wabash, Illinois. By 1860, he owned $300 of personal property. A decade later, they owned $1,200 of real estate and $2,500 of personal property. They adopted a daughter named Katie in the 1870s. Madison died of “senile debility” in Marshall on February 2, 1905.
