Baltimore July 3d 1862
Friend Tom.
I received your welcom letter June 29th I was very glad to hear from you. We left Camp Chase last sabbath for Anapolist but when we arrived here Gen. Wool ordered us into camp here. so we pitched our tents just at the edge of this City on a beautiful piece of ground & are having a pleasant time. There are a great many hardships in sold-/ering but I have never regreted that I come. There are some 8 thousand troops near this place from what I can learn their is danger of an outbreak every moment. We received 40 round of catragies to-day & wer told by the Col. that we might find use for them to morrow, as it will be the 4th. I hope nothing searious will happen, but things loock a little suspicious. I can’t tell how long we will remain here but think we will moove soon perhaps to Virginia.
We had a very pleasant trip from Camp Chase here at several places where we stopt bread & butter & other things we had not been use to for a few weeks wer passed very freely, & such cheers Oh. it done one good./
I donot know wheather I ought to write to ___ or not. I guess I had better not. Just give them my compliments.
Our Col. has just come to our quarters and ordered our Capt. to be ready to march into the City at 4 ocK to be ready in case of any disturbance
One of our Reg. from company I went to town to-day & bought some things to eat & died this evening, (was poison)
One has to be very careful in this part of the country. We get a great many sour loocks. Still they cant healp it. I have another letter to to wright to-night. And we have pray-meeting & as it is time I must close. Remember me to all the friends/
Write soon Direct to Baltimore, & it will follow our Reg.
Yours truly
