My Dear Mother & Sister
I received your kind note yesterday and was glad to learn that you have so many Boarders I am in good health and so is the Regiment as a general thing. We had a Battle Yesterday 4 miles frome here and all of our Regiments or division started out for the scene of action the 5th Regt at the Head But the fun was all over when we got there so we had to march Back to camp Late at night through the rain for our trouble our forces was victorious with the loss of But 6 or 7 men. They captured 2 Batterys and I do not know the number of Prisners. The President or I should say Gen Scott Promises us we shall eat our Christmas Dinner at Home. I think so myself and I Begin to be afraid I shall get Home without seeing a Battle.
