I am well with the exception of a slight cold and live in the hopes of getting home yet before spring to see you/

For there is talk of furloughs being issued after the 14th of this month

I spent a very dull christmas for I was hard at work all day building a log cabin. we have finished it and have got a little sheet iron stove for which we paid 3 1/2 dollars for we do our own cooking and keep Bachelors Hall. So we live quite nice. I seen the old year out and the new one in while doing Picket Duty on the outposts of the army. I bid the old Year farewell forever and welcomed the new one with a fervent Happy New Year to the loved ones at home Tell Agness that I often see Beldaine Spence he is close to us. he often talks and askes about you and sends his regards to you all.

The Box came verry nice with nothing mussed you had every thing I could wish for/

Tell Mary I did answer her letter and wrote to Danvill give her my sincere thank for her interest in that Box and tell her I will get that Picture for her as soon as I can get to Washington I answer Dan’s letter soon and liges to.
