                                                                    Alexandria Va Aprile 27th 1862

Dear Sister. Your welcome letter came duly to hand and found me up and about. I am at present acting Big [?]. I live on the 3rd floor of one of the Bigest Hotels Order up what I wish to eat, Read when I wish to sleep when I wish in fine I live like a Gentleman

I am Glad to hear of you having so many Boarders. I think you had better not go to Fortress Monroe. You may get your morels corrupted, for there is some hard cases among Soldiers Who are the other girles that are going that you spoke of. I have not writen to york county yet I do not know the place. Give my love to Mother and tell her I am almost/Well. Tell her I did not get my pay yet although the company has But I was here when it was payed I am expecting the Pay Master here every day. I advise you to read your letters over after you are done writing them than your Readers will not have to guess the words that are left out

Has Jennie Wallice gone home to Danville? Give my kind regards to all my friends. The Regiment is Guarding the Rail Road frome here to Manasses. Capt Taggart has been here twice to see me Lieut Slater once
