                                                                        Aquia Creek Dec 1st 1862
                                                To Agnes

Yours of the 25th was duly received last evening and I am very much pleased to hear from you and will try to write you something more than a note but really agnes I did not have time to write you more in the last but you know agnes I never write very long letter to you and others complain of me for the same but if ever I get to see you I will try and make up for my short letters by talking which you know I am pretty full of some times think I have too much to say but cant help it I would be much pleased to hear of Maggie getting a good companion/let her always be kindly remembered by me

I have been to see your brother twice in two weeks he is well and says he never eat so much since he has been in service providing he could get it but but I tell you they were pretty hard up for provision the first time I was to see him the greater part of the army lies between here and fredericksburg I have two brothers with in seven miles of here I have seen one of them several times but the other I have not seen yet but expect to go to see him tomorrow if I am not out on detail I pass with in about half a mile of James agnes I have never a young man in my life that I like so much I often wish he was here with me in our regiment but as he is not I will call on him as often as I can/

we are all ready for another brush just as soon as we get onward we will move and I hope it will be very soon as our regiment will have to lay the bridge across the river at Fredericks Burg and that will open the ball and I want them to keep it open until it is closed and a final close I want it to be made in less than than two months for I am getting very tired and so are all the soldiers this is getting to be an awful thing and I think it is more for money than true patriotism for our loved country well my kind friend the taps have beat and I will have to close my love to all
to you a large share from

your true friend
