Francis C. Miller to Agnes F. Voris, 22 June 1863
                                                                        Head Quarters Engineer Brigade
                                                                                    Washington DC June 22nd 1863

                                                                        Dear Agnes

five oclock AM and I seat my self to write you as I did not get time to do so yesterday we arrived here on last saturday morning we were all pretty well tired out but this morning Dear Agnes finds me in the enjoyment of good health sincerely hoping when this reaches you it may find you all enjoying gods richest blessing on eart which is health. I am glad we have left the Rappanhannock the longer I stayed there the more I dreaded it I feel satisfied to stay just where I am for a while for I would like to rest but how long we will be here there is no telling we will have a gooddeal of work to do while we are here and what writing I do I will have/to do very early in the morning and in the evening but I will try to find time to write to you once a week if not on sunday I will write on monday mornings and send them out with the mail which will reach you just as quick as if written on sunday well Dear Agnes I attended church last evening and heard a good old methodist sermon I listened to it very attentively but I think I would have enjoyed it much more if I had been sitting by the side of a certain one whom I love perhaps you know who. Agnes you cannot imagine how bad I want to see you but we are yet a good ways apart and must live in hope. I trust we shall meet some day when we will not have to part in a few hours but will have the pleasure of each others company for many long days Agnes it is a joy to me to live even in such a hope. this is a most lovely morning clear and bright how pleasant it would be for to take a walk on to the point and look over the clear blue waters/of the susquehannah I think where you live if those cars and coal roads were not so close would be a most lovely place but I would not care for seeing the place but would love dearly to see those who live there. were you frightened when the rebles were in Pa. tell me when you write I think those rebs getting in there will waken up the dull and sleepy heads who have been living regardless of war or any thing els now I do not want to see any more blood shed but I would like to see enough men in the field to just go right through the south and drive them in the gulf of mexico but this I suppose cannot be so we will have to be content with what ever comes to hand. well Dear Agnes I will have to bring my letter to a close in order to send it out in the mail please give my love to your Mother Dan Aunt C and to Maggie and husband also to Kate and others of my acquaintence but remembering Agnes has the love of my whole heart. your true lover F C Miller
