                                                Dear Agnes

this sabbath evening finds me seated to write my regular weekly letter which I am always happy to do to day has been a long day but I have spent the most of it in writing as I do not get time on week days I am as usual well hoping this may find you all enjoying the same great blessing. I suppose you are reading one of my letters today while I am trying to pen you another perhaps I write to often if so do not be afraid to tell me but do not think I get tired of writing to you for I do not yet I would much rather sit and talk/

how pleasant it would be to be seated by your side this beautiful sabbath evening and relate over some of our past life and yet we are both young. I do not know your age exactly but near 19 teen if I remember well is not please tell me in your next. there has been no news of any account from the front since I last wrote you there has been two trains sent out from here to the army but only men enoug with them to convey them through there is trouble in our regiment again and until it is settled we will not leave Washington some of our officers wants to play smart on us but we have just as smart men in the ranks as the ones that hold office they have been trying to get us into the infantry but I do not think they can make it work we have sent in protests against it and I think we will be successful in defeating them in their underhanded game I will tell you more of/their game in the next this will be a short letter but you will please excuse me I will very soon have to go on dressparade. there was a man met with a sad loss here he belonged to our regiment he has been sick for a long time and his wife has been waiting on him he has got able to be up but a few days ago she took sick and to day she was buried they have four small children Agnes it almost makes my heart bleed when I think of the fate of such children when the mother is gone then all seems to be gone there is not the same care obtained from a father that there is from a mother I now close Dear Agnes bidding you a reluctant good by for this evening give my love to your mother Aunt Dan and others except the love of one who sincerely loves Agnes. from
                                                                                    Frank your lover
