                                                            Dear Agnes

I am seated to write a few lines to you this evening as I did not get time to write you my regular sunday letter yesterday we were called on to make up a ponton train which kept us until nearly midnight and at four oclock this morning one company left with the train. at eight oclock this morning we were again called on to make up two more trains one of twenty four boats and another of forty one canvas boats which are loaded on barges I think they are going to the peninsula the whole brigade is going on tomorrow except our company and I think/we will stay here alone this winter I am pleased to see them go in one respect that is I will have the privilage of tending divine service and many other privilages. but I am yet sorry to see them go for I know what hardships and toil they will have to endure during the coming winter. I am not one Dear Agnes that does wish others into the field on the account of a few privilages I would much rather see the regiment stay than go but now duty calls them and they seem willing to answer to the call. my usual good health is still with me oh how thankful I should feel. Dear Agnes I hope this letter may find you in the enjoyment of good health and all the family. I am going to make this letter short as it is now going on ten and I am pretty tired I know Dear Agnes will not blame me for not writing a longer one will she/
give my love to one and all

and I will write you a longer when the Brigade is gone. good night

Dearest one of my thoughts and heart
except my love god bless and protect
you is the prayr of your lover
