My Dear Agnes
another Sabbath has returned and as usual he who thinks of her whom he loves is seated at his side table to converse for a short time with the silent tongue which is the pen I am happy to tell you I am in splendid health and in comfortable circumstances the weather for a week back has been beautiful as pleasant as any may day last evening it changed and rained some during the night this morning it is warm but cloudy and a heavy fog. I trust this letter will find Dear Agnes well, happy, and contented and also her friends I am now kept pretty busy as I am acting orderly of the company and have to drill the new men four hours per day/besides seeing to the work in the shop but I will only be kept so for the coming month or a greater part of it then our orderly will be back and I will be in the shop again I heard from my brother last week he is well and has reenlisted but I do not know when he starts for home the most of our reenlisted men from the regiment are now here as their term of leave has expired their thirty days are gone and I guess a good many of them have spent their money and now they are thinking of the three years longer which they have to serve now as for my self I considered the matter well and made up my mind I could stay where I am for a few months better than I could go home for thirty days and then come back to stay three years and now I feel better over my judgment evry day, for as I see one after another return here to the regiment from their homes they do not feel satisfied and I do. for if I live to serve out my time I know I will not have to report back in one short month why I could hardly see all of my friends in one/month let alone going to see some body who I hope to call nearer than a friend you can guess who I mean I have no news of any importance to write as evrything is dull.
hoping to hear from you very soon Dear Agnes
I close give my love to your mother Aunt C. Dan my compliments to Maggie and others but remembering to you I send the whole love of my heart from your true lover
