                        My Dear Agnes

I am again seated this sabbath afternoon to write another weekly letter to you Dear Agnes. though I have not heard from you for some time but I suppose there is an ample reason for not receiving a letter from you I do not think you would keep me waiting so long with out a good reason I am well and in good spirits sincerely hoping when this reaches you that you may be in the enjoyment of health and also happy and contented. I would have written this morning but we have had a review to day and General inspection which kept us from nine until twelve Oclock and I am now kept quite busy but I will/find time enough to write to you once a week there is no army news and very little local a sad accident happened yesterday evening on the railroad from this city to Alexandria while the train was crossing [?] bridge the draw way was hoisted and the engineer did not have warning in time to stop the train and it was thrown over into the river there was two men severely injured and the engineer drowned some six or seven cars were left in the river with the engine. it is now dark this has been a busy day for me after review I had company for three or four hours my friend from Dewart station and Mr Cross from this place the father of the young boy which was so severely injured by a ponton wagon some time ago and A “Mr. Huloroy” of this place both old gentlemen so you see I am not so fond of the young and gay as I am of the old and wise I have just heard from the front yesterday the armies were again engaged in fighting/I have not learned any particulars but if there has been any fighting of any consequence I will send you a paper I want to tend church this evening and will not continue my letter much longer

Dear Agnes I
