My Dear Agnes
this sabbath afternoon finds me again seated to write you a short letter hoping when it reaches you that you may be enjoying the blessing of health and love happiness Dear Agnes I cannot account for your long delay in writing to me but I am still the same in love if I would not get but one letter in six months if it was only the right kind there is no news of importance here nothing new only that I have been to church to day and heard a northern man preach he preached a good hour. the new men are now comeing into our regiment we have twenty one and expect to have as many more in a few days I am drilling them now/four hours per day but I will have more time to my self than I had when I was in the shop after this week. at present I am kept quite busy as I have been acting orderly for near a month back our orderly having reenlisted his time is out on saturday next I tell you I will be glad of it for I am tired of doing the duty of two. I am in splendid health never enjoyed better health the weather here is warm but to day it is very wintry and the dust is flying so one can scarcely see but not cold I am sitting in my tent with no fire you can judge how warm it must be. I am alone Dear Agnes and while writing to you I am thinking of you and no one els I want to see you so bad I can hardly content my self to wait until my time is out but I will have to as I cannot get a leave of absence so I must banish the thought of seeing you until I am free to come and see you with out any bodys leave if I live I have not heard from my Brother for some time neither have I heard from home/
neither have I heard from you Dear Agnes but I will look for a letter this week certain my friend has just come in he is working in the navy yard I tell you I love to meet my old northern friends but would rather meet some of my lady friends one in particular you can guess well Dear Agnes I have not much news to write you and you will pardon my short letter. my love to your mother Aunt C. Dan and others
but ever remember you have the sincere love of my heart
to Agnes F.V. from her true lover
