Engineer Depot Washington D C
March 13th 1864
Dear Agnes
this beautiful sabbath morning I take the pleasure to be seated to write my regular weekly letter which will be an answer to yours of the 3rd ult I have three letters from you all mailed on the 3rd of march one is written Feb 8th one Feb 25th and one March 3rd but Dear Agnes they were all welcome and I took much pleasure in reading them I am well at present but have been pretty sick since I last wrote you I took a very heavy cold and it settled in my neck and back part of my head but by taking some pretty strong doses I am again on my tops and feel tip top my breast was not the/least affected. you wished me to have you a better photograph taken one with my mustach shaved of but I do not know as to having my mustach shaved of as I dont want to loose it but I will give another trial with it on and see how sour I can look I will get an ambrotype taken and send you you can show them that in stead of that sour photograph I have not heard from my Brother for some time neither have I heard from home if my brother comes here on his way home I will get one of his photographs and send you I wish some time when you can you and Margie would set for an ambrotype not a costly one. but I would like to see how you look sitting side by side as of old three more days will make up the year since we last met live in hope I trust we shall meet ere long not be separated so soon now I will make a bargain if you will go with me to visit my friends on my return I will promise to accompany you/on your visit to your friends in Danville none of my relatives know I am paying my addresses to you in fact they all think I am rather choicy to ever get a partner but I want one of my own choice and not theirs am I not right. I am glad to hear you had such a nice visit I hope you may have many more. there is no news of of importance I am in the shop and have pretty good times cannot complain at all I think I will serve my time here in the Depot at least I hope so give my love to your kind Mother Aunt C Dan and others remembering there is one to whom my love is ever free. to Agnes.
