Dear Agnes
this beautiful sabbath morning finds me seated in my tent and also finds me in health. I arrived here last night at eleven P.M. I handed my pass in this morning the captain seemed to be well pleased. they did not think I would be here until to day some time but Dear Agnes I always like to be in my place in proper time and then when I ask a favor I am not refused it dont you think I met Don farley in Harrisburg he was on his way home he has not reenlisted but says he has a good place and I am glad to hear it he looks well. my friend Mr Wagner is here this morning he is going to leave this city on tuesday with a company of workmen for Chattanooga I am/sorry to part with him but he thinks he will like the tramp. my little Friend is here also looking well and wants to know if I am married I tell yes. how is our friend gaddis comeing on. do you think he will want to know if we keep good hours if he does tell him I think he is a fool and dont know it. if he had been a gentleman he would not have come into the room the rest of the men I thought were very nice men. but I will say no more. I trust this may find you well and all the family. I tell you how the boys pitch on me to know if we are married I tell some yes and some no and some of them I tell to find out. it is now near noon one of my tent mates is cooking ham for dinner pretty good living for soldiers I will not continue this letter very long as I have no news to tell you so soon after seeing you Dear Agnes my visit was a very pleasant one the happyest evening I have spent for years was in your company. I do not say this to /flatter for I am no flatterer I say it of a truth and out of a true heart I will look for an answer some time soon give my love to your good mother Aunt C Dan and others to Mrs Mcginnis—Maggie
excepting the love of your true lover
