My Dear Agnes
this beautiful sabbath morning Dear Agnes I can find nothing that can give me such pleasure as to be seated in my cool tent to write to one I love so much. I have been very busy all morning untill with in the past twenty minutes. I was up at five first to call the roll next to have the men clean up the street. then breakfast after which the guard is to be called out. next the sick to be taken to the doctors. and the last morning call is out to work evry man that is able this routine I have to go through with evry morning and on sunday mornings inspection is added to it which is at nine oclock. I am now through the work for this morning and am trying to spend the hour from nine till ten with you I cannot/spend with one that I love so well as you but me thinks if I were where I could be seated by your side I yet be much happier than I am using the pen ink and paper. you know I can talk full as well as I can write and besides it gives me much more pleasure to do so. but I guess I am complaining some and that is wrong for I should be very thankful that I can have the pleasure of conversing with those I love even with the pen I have not heard from my Brother since the fighting commenced but hope for the best it is hard to get any letters to and from the army at present I heard from my Brother in Wmsport the same day I received your letter he was well and said evry thing was very lively there is no news from the army this morning our wounded are being all brought here and a great many of them sent to Philadelphia & Newyork Cities where the Sanitary commissions will take proper care of them they have done much for our army and are now doing very much many a wounded man will doubtless be thankful for what care and attention he has received from the hands of those who belong/to the sanitary commission. I speak favorably of the commision for I have seen the benefit of it. the last few days has been very warm here and is so to day. the roses are all out in full bloom and many other flowers evrything looks so beautiful the fields are all covered with their green carpets and trees with their beautiful foliage. and yet why are sad first because many of us is of a sad nature I because of the sad condition of our country and friends and I we are sad when we think of the change that many of us will have to make in another world…oh how often I wish my change had been mad when I was very young but I have been putting it off year by by year and now I am no better not so good as I was ten years ago. but I will not dwell on this subject. it may make you feel sad but I hope not I have always tried to write you lively and cheerful letters and why because I love you and would not wish to make you feel sad. I am in the enjoyment of splendid health and trust when this reaches Dear Agnes she will be enjoying the same rich blessing also your good mother Aunt C and others from him who loves you Dearly & truly F C Miller
yours Affectionately F to Agnes F Voris
