My Dear Agnes
I drop you a few lines in haste to let you know I am going out to the front and perhaps you will not hear from me again in some time but live in bright hope I am going to do my duty we are going up the James river with butler do not know when I shall return but hope our trip will not be a long one I am writing in much haste as the men are packing up am in perfect health hope sincerely hope this may find my Dear Agnes and all her friends well may god bless and protect you and me
