                                                            My Dear Agnes

this warm sultry sabbath I am seated to write you the regular sabbath letter though I have written you an extra one since last sabbath but you will find me true to my promise when ever I can get an opportunity to write on sabbaths I will do so though Dear Agnes you can judge my feelings when I say I have not had a letter from you for over a month why is this long delay I only fear it is caused by sickness or through some strange cause now if you did not wish to write I am sure you would tell me and not keep me waiting so anxiously. if you are sick get Aunt Charlott to write me a few lines if it is only two lines I will be satisfied I have now one month/and three days to serve them. I hope to return so that I can lay aside the gun which has been my true companion for the last three years gone by, and seat my self by the side of her I have long loved and hoped to greet you know Dear Agnes I love you with that love which only true lovers can feel. but now do not think me rude when I say I have been rather slighted unless you have been sick or some one of the family so that you could not write. I am sorry to tell you of a sad accident that happened here while I was to washington last week. there was a barge loaded with ammunitions of all arms which exploded blowing to pieces some fifty men and wounding over a hundred those killed by the affair were utterly torn in pieces a large number of them negroes it was an awful thing our army is fighting some to day the news from our different armies is more encouraging the past few days back I hope this is the last summer of this bloody cruel wicked and I will say unjust war unjust because/made so by a few pollitical men well Dear Agnes I am on guard to day and will not write you a very long letter for it is so very warm I sincerely hope this will find you well happy and enjoying your self give my love to your Mother Dan aunt Charlott, and best wishes to others. receive the love of him who loves you sincerely

                        your true lover
