Francis C. Miller to Agnes F. Voris, 23 October 1864
Williamsport
Oct 23rd 1864
My Dear Agnes
this beautiful sabbath morning I am seated to write you a short letter do not think hard of me if I do not write you a long letter I have met with a bad misfortune while I was up to the woods on thirsday last I cut my knee very bad and am now at my brothers but cannot get out of the house but I hope I will not be so long rather unfortunate after my return from the army but you know Dear agnes we are all liable to misfortunes. I must not complain for I was very fortunate while in the army and I hope with proper care I will soon be able to go to work but as soon as I get able to get around I will make you a visit/will write you before I come down
this is a beautiful sabbath I wish I were down there to go to church with you and spend the day but instead I cannot scarcely get from one room to another but I can write to one I love and think it no hardship. I have been looking for a letter from you but as I have been away I suppose you did not know whether to write or no. but I will say now please write to me soon and let me know how you are getting along I want to hear from you. you will direct to Williamsport box. 290. and then I will get them whether I am here or els where it is now nearly noon and Dear Agnes I hardly know what to write but I have written so little yet I am almost asshamed to send it. now if I was so I could get out then I would have more to write about but I will try to do better on next sabbath if I do not write during the week if I get worse I will write and let you know but if I improve I will not write until next sabbath then I will/try to write you a longer letter. I have had a very pleasant visit with my friends and enjoyed it very much until my accident but I am very pleasantly situated here but nothing hurts one more than to be confined in the house I get so lonesome and tired. I hardly know what to do but I hope it will not last long I am well with the the exceptions of my cut knee. well my Dear Agnes I will close for I cannot set up long I must rest. give my love to your mother Aunt C Dan and others
except the love of your true and
affectionate lover
