My Dear Agnes
I have just read your letter of the 20th ult and though I wrote to you on sunday last I feel it my duty to write again to night you cannot immagine my dear Agnes what my fellings are since I read your good letter it is such a letter as I appreciate if you remember you used to write me such letters when I was in the army oh how often have I set down and read your good letters. now Dear Agnes my love for such letters from you has not grown cold but instead it has increased and I trust will ever do so until we are one in heart and/and person. I woud love dearly to talk with you to night but will have to content myself by writing it seems hard for me to live a sinful life and hard for me to be a christian I have not lost all hope yet oh that god may give me grace to conquer our evil hearts you know not what misery I live in there is not a day but I regret my sinful life. I was once like you were very happy and how bright those days were to me. can not our fortune be even as bright as our past it may if we live as we should and why do we not live as we are taught to live in gods word. now lets try to live so it is not yet to late and I trust when we meet again we may be happier and and if we are happier we will love each other more dearly and we will then be much loved by our friends now there is but one way to live if we would be happy and that is to love and serve our god and if we pray for our/selves and for each other I feel that god will not turn us empty away for he has given his word that those who asks in faith shall receive. now can we doubt oh my dear Agnes nothing would wound my feelings more than to hear that you no longer belonged to the church. be faithful and I know you will be happy you know it has been a long time since I belonged to the church but it has not been long since I nelt to pray though I know I am not worthy to kneel. but jesus is the sinners friend and through him we must come to the father. I will here change my subject I am well. commenced work yesterday I trust this may find you all well and happy my love to all.
this is from your true and affectionate lover
