My Dear Agnes

this sabbath morning I am seated in my old tent to write you another letter I arrived here safe but did not get the situation which was intended for me and of course I had to look around for another place. I am going to work in the quartermasters department for a while I do not know how long I shall stay or how long I can get employment there but will do the best I can I made a mistake when I left my place in Wmsport I would have done better to have stayed there but as I am now here I will make the best of it I intend going to work tomorrow morning I am in perfect health and find my old comrads all well they were pleased to see me and I them for some of them are fine fellows and I thought/a great deal of them. Dear Agnes how are you spending this sabbath morning I hope you are well and happy but I suppose you are tired for I know what you had to do when I left and I suppose you were kept very busy. since I came here one of my old tent mates has been mustered out of service his time of enlistment having expired. he is going to leave for home this week very soon all of my former tent mates will be like him and I citizens again how evry thing changes in course of time now the places in the ranks are filled with new men and our vacancies as non commisioned officers are filled with some who were in the ranks I find my old company very much changed. Dear Agnes there is one that does not change in my estimation and whose warm heart I can only love the more the oftener I meet you the more I love to enjoy your society and the harder it is for me to part with you though when I part with you I have always tried to do it with a smile on my countenance but I have forced that smile at each parting much more on our last. and Dear Agnes the parting kiss shall/not be forgotten by me until we meet again and to me it shall be a guide. remembering that her who gave it me loves me and in due time I hope to return that love by caring for and laboring for her wellfare in this world. I am not happy this morning or contented but will try to content my self as well as I can. I am going to take dinner to day with mr crosses family who have kindly offered me an invitation and who in former times have been very kind to me. they were much pleased to see me.

the bells are now ringing for church and I believe I will go so I will close by giving my love to all your mother in particular
except the love of your true & affectionate
lover
