My Dear Agnes

this lovely evening I am seated to reply to your welcome letter which I have just received and read I am happy to know you are well but am very sorry to hear your mother is so unwell. I hope her health may be much improved by the time this reaches you. I have received a letter from my brother in which he states that himself and any other two brothers who have not yet been in the army are drafted. three of them at one time and all have families small children/I tell you it is pretty hard to see them go into the army but I do not know as I can do any thing to keep them from it unless I were to volunteer to go in one of their places. but you know Dear Agnes I have a tie which binds my heart nearer than a brother and I do not think I would be justified in breaking my self off from the promises I have made. do you think I would. you know my Dear Agnes the tie which binds me and which keeps me from taking the place of a brother. you wished to know the size of the parlor I do not know therefore I cannot tell. and you wanted to know when I would be home I cannot get away from here before the 6th or 8th of April as I cannot get my/pay before that time without some trouble. you say you will have to give possession of your house by the first of april. I am sorry to hear that as I cannot get possession of the one I rent before the first of may as the family who are in it hold it until then. but Agnes we will have to arrange matters as best we can until I can get possession if your mother has not sold by the time this reaches you if you arrange it with the company who buys your house try to stay in it until the first of may If you cannot I will have to do the best I can. I will not write much more at present. I leave it with you to set the appointed time of I trust our happy union and please let me know as soon as you can conveniently and also concerning the house arrangements

my love to any and all
