Francis C. Miller to Agnes F. Voris, 19 March 1865
Washington D C
March 19th 1865
My Dear Agnes
this beautiful sabbath morning I am quietly seated to reply to your last which I received on the 15th ult I am glad to hear that all are well nothing comes more welcome to me than good news and when the news reaches me from any of my friends that they are all well. I am always happy to hear from them and I am sure when such news reaches me from one I love much more than a friend I am all the more happier. but I received a letter a short time ago from my brother stating that/three of my brothers were drafted of course such news was not good to me but I have often thought that each one of our family would be called on to give aid in this unhappy war I have thought in my own mind whether it would be right for me to take the place of one of them or not but when I remember I have a tie which binds my heart much more than a brothers love can. I think I am fully justified in staying at home do you not think I am. give me your opinion in your next. I suppose you have received the letter by this time in which I wished you to set the day of our union and please let me know as soon as you can. I see by the papers that you are having very high/water I suppose it has done a greatdeal of damage let me know as much about it as you can in your next I am getting tired of this place and I want to see you. but will have to wait until the 8th of April before I can come up
you wished me to guess how many I have written you I have no idea but will venture to say over an hundred have I made a close guess tell me. I know I have written you more love letters than I ever will write again I think I can write you say three more yet or near that. wont you have a fine time courting next August oh! what courting time that will be for you and Eliza young to Mr Johnsons innocence isent some men innocent/
Dear Agnes I close my love to all
your affectionate lover
