Miss Mattie E Tillmon
Your letter come to hand the 2 which was recived with Plesur I was glad to hear from you all you spoke of writing to me so offen Mat your letter was glad recived Mat I saw Steve Green he has been sick thoug is up now he tell me that Cousin John is very well plesed ther the girls is very well sadisfide they sent ther love to me which was gladly recived Mat I now will tell you wher we are going from here I supose we will go to Murfesbur Tenn I want to go ther for I think I will git to go to see my old friendes & Relation Mat we have taken a long walk in Ky we wer in one fight ther I am very well sadisfide to Quit now we have had a hard time for the last Eight montes I laust all of my cloes they wer burnt on the Retreat the wagon broke down & they burnt it up & burnt all of my clothing I was sory to heare that my clothing wre burnt I had a good many nice thinges that wer give to me by the girls or by one girl one among the fines of girls/
Mat I am loving her a little she is a nice girl though I offen think of you her Sister told me if we staid in Ky she would make me a fine suit of cloes this winter I would be glad to see you all & Cousin John famly I am going to write Mag & Sack to day I have a way of sending letter to them by hand Mat I havent saw any of the Tennessee boys in a long time Gid was well ther they wer all well Bob Philipes was sick & was very low I never herd wherer he got well or not Neut Puckett was sick the last time I saw him I am in hopes he got well Mat Dr Hunt got a discharge & went home & marrid to Miss Fannie Wadkines.
I herd from Uncle Edward they wer all well the Yankis taken all of Martains proprity & some of Dr Wadkines I never herd wher they taken any of uncle Edwardes proprity or not they eat all of the prvision thrue then Mat we laust twenty kild at the fight at Richmon our company all got out safe Mat good bey for a will Steve has com over to see me/
Mat must look over me for not writing to you sooner for it is out of my power to doe so for it is very silim that we can git any paper & ink to write or time So nothin more Steve Sendes his love to you all he has been with me & I am going to write the girls now for the first time in a long while Mat farwell for a while So if we dont see Eachother any more we cant think hard for if we don’t see one another again So write Soon Yours Untell Death G.W. Mrs. Puckett I was very glad to see a few lines from you as it was the first I think we are going to have peace now or beter times you spoke of me for not writing to you I think I have writan to you you spoke of your boy I cant see who your boy takes his smartnies after unless it is me for it cant be after it father or Mother it may be Neut that he takes his smartness Parlee I am going to send him a dress or a par of pantes the first chance your/
