Warrenton Va. Feb 25th /64
Dear Father
I sit my self down to pen you a few lines I am a lone to night for Alber is on Picket and Ramsdell is on Post Guard I am warm and have got a belly full to night and well and hope this letter will find you all the same it is very pleasent weather ow here now but it is bout time to havey have heavy rains I have got my horse and I have got a very good one he is black and that is what a Solger wants is a good horse we went out on a Skermish Drill to day and we had some sport I tell you. I have just put some hens in to Back for to morrow morning how due you get a long with you Sawing I hope the mill will gow well and I hope John will stay at home/with you I wish you could get some one to Saw with John so you would not have to work so hard how doe you like the Sters that you bought of Mrs Bean I gess that George Bean and Matte dont think much of Mrs Bean and I dont blame them I fell very thankful to you Father for the Box and I hope I shall have the privilage of dowing what a Son had ought to doe for such a good Father as you have been to me and all the rest of us I hope the Lord will take care of me and delever me to you all as I left you Father I fell feel as tough it is my plase out here to Fight for my Country. I cant think of much more to write now ower Captains name is John Myrick we have got good Officers in ower Co. all the Boys is well Albert Moulton rote John a letter last Sunday so I thought I/would not write then I want you all to write as often as you can and I will doe the same give my love to all of my Folks tell Aunt Viny to write tell Uncle Joe I should be glad to have a letter from him I must close for it is geting late so I bid so I will close by bidding you all good night
