Dear Father
                        I sit myself down to pen you a few lines I have just had my Breakfast we had Coffe New Potatoes W Bread and fried meat the Potatoes we stole I am well and I hope this letter will find you all well we had quite excitement here in Camp Monday night we had Marching Orders five minets notice the Cavlarymen had to turn all thare arms in and Saddels and yestday morning started with Muskets three days rations One Hundred rounds of Catrages the news was that the Rebs was making a raid into Fairfax every man had to gow that was able I tell you I am lucky to/be out of it for it is hard for Cavlry to be Dismounted and have to cary a musket I have not heard enny thing from them yet but some thinks that they will be back in a few days the Doctor excued me from all Duity and I dont have nothing to do and I dont think that I shall have much more to do for Uncle Sam  my arm is the same as it was when I was home and I shant try to make it eny better I hav not had eny letter yet from you things aint but a few of us in Camp now I hav not much to write to day I rote you one last Sunday good by write soon
