                                                             Near Petersburg Spt. 25th Sunday/64

                                                                                                                        Dear Father
I take my pen in hand to write you a few lines to let you know that I am well and I hope this letter will find you all the same

I rote to John last week and I thought I would write you a few lines to day I like to hear from you often and I suppose you like to hear from me the same. we get some good news here now and I suppose you get the same from the Valley most every one seams to feel incouraged now a bout the Rebellion being put down this Winter Geaner Gen. Sheridan/has made two successful movements up the vally it was last Friday morning I think that we was drawned up in line befor Head Quarters to have the news read to us and we gave three Cheers for the glorious Victory and a Salute of one Hundred Guns was fired from the Forts a long the line this was for the last Victory and the same Salute was given for the first Victory that he gained I think things look favorable now if Grant could make such movements as Sheridan has made the Rebel Army would soon be distroyed I suppose the Copper Heads feel very bad thinking that Abe will be Relected wich I think very strong he will. most all of the Soldires would Vote for him/if they have the privilage to every thing is quiet here at presant. ower Regiment went out on Picket this morning

they will be gon three days. the first D.C. Cavalry Regiment has come into owern nearly half of them was taken Prisoners the time that the Rebs made that Raid and Captured ower Cattle, that was quite a lost to ower army.

I have been expecting to be sent away every day but have not been yet the Doctor tells me most every morning that he will do some thing for me eather sent me to the Hospital or Transver me to the Inflid Core he told me that he had spock to the Magor a bout me he said that/prehaps he could get some light duty for me to do and if they do not I suppose I shall be put in the Inflid Core I hope I shall find out something a bout it soon.

the weather
is quite cool here to day it is almost night and I must make me some Coffie I hope some of you will write to me to day I will draw to a close hoping this letter will find you well, write
